10th Annual Water Safety Day

Phoenix Children's leads the charge to prevent child drownings

The Valley's kickoff to the 2009 swimming season is just around the corner, and Phoenix Children's Hospital is at the center of the effort with Valley Toyota Dealer's Water Safety Day, also presented by SRP Safety Connection.

More than 1,200 first-grade students throughout the Valley attend the event as part of a seven-week learning process, which includes a water safety curriculum in the classroom.

Students participating in this one-of-a-kind celebration of water safety enjoy an abundance of activities, including:

  • Live pool safety shows
  • Special Build-A-Reminder workshops with La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries
  • A singing firefighter show and Kid Zone carnival area
  • A unified display of valley-wide public safety support in the form of fire trucks, helicopters, and ambulances from all over Maricopa County

Water Safety Day is Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at  Mesa Community College, 1833 West Southern Avenue, Mesa, AZ 85202 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Water Watchers

Phoenix Children's Water Watchers program is recognized throughout the United States.  The program emphasizes the ABC's of Water Safety: adult supervision, barriers (fences), and classes (such as CPR and swimming lessons at the appropriate age).

Volunteer

Help us make a difference by volunteering at the event.  More than 300 positions are available, with flexible schedule options throughout the day.

More information

You can help prevent child drownings.  Check your pool fence and yard to ensure that children cannot get into the pool area without an adult present.
